
Physical Education and Sport
The school actively promotes physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
It aims to develop skills in movement, co-ordination, physical activity and
team spirit.
Children are taught fundamental movement skills, dance, modified games and a
large variety of all sporting skills. All sport lessons are provided by ‘Sportspro,
Skills for Life’ specialist teachers.
Kindergarten and Year 1 have sport on Thursdays, and Years 2 to 6 on Fridays.
In Kindergarten
& Years 1-2 students participate in sports skills lessons
with a specialist sport teacher promoting a wide range of PE activities with an
emphasis on gymnastics, dance/movement skills and fundamental ball skills.
In Years 3-6 students participate in fitness lessons, two mornings a
week.
Years 2-6 students also participate in sport lessons with specialist
sport teachers and a specialist dance teacher. These activities develop the
student’s sporting skills and offered such sports as volleyball,
t-ball/softball, cricket, hockey, soft crosse, European handball, soccer,
netball, basketball, rugby, Australian rules, league, oz tag, high jump, long
hump, shot put and relays.
Years K-6 attend Swimming (only Years 2-6), Cross Country and Athletics
Carnivals held during the year to select children to participate in Zone, Area
and State Carnivals.
Students in Years 2 and 3 also attend the
Austswim, learn to swim program.
PSSA Sport
Children in Years 3-6 are selected on ability to participate in inter-school
competitions conducted by the
Primary School Sporting
Association (PSSA). The competition is run during school hours and all games
are played outside the school grounds.
Summer Competition (Terms 1 & 4) includes softball for girls and cricket for
boys.
Winter Competition (Terms 2 & 3) includes netball for girls and soccer for
boys.
