Friday is Chess Club at TPS.
Every Friday lunchtime, students may come to the Library as soon as they have
eaten their lunch to play chess.
It is a good idea to come with a buddy so that they have someone to play
against.
In Terms 1 & 4 chess classes are held – they are advertised in the school
newsletter. Class is taken by a tutor from the Sydney Chess Academy and there is
a cost of usually around $6 per class.
It is a good idea to put your child’s name down quickly as places fill fast!
In Terms 2 & 3 we enter teams into the NSW Junior Chess League Competition.
This year we have 4 teams made up of students from Year 1 to Year 6.
The Competition runs for 10 weeks over the two terms after school on a
Friday. The students in the competition are expected to come to lunchtime
classes during terms 2 & 3. These classes are not available to students not in
the competition. However they can still come to the library to play chess with a
friend.
No matter what level the students are playing at, the emphasis at TPS is to
enjoy the game and to play to the best of your ability. It doesn’t matter if you
win or lose, if you have learned something about the game and enjoyed it, that’s
great!
